How does Nasadec exert its decongestant effect?
Nasadec directly stimulates the alpha receptors of the blood vessels of the nose resulting in vaso-constriction and ultimately, decongestion—resulting in easier breathing.
Nasadec stimulates the release of nor-epinephrine, a powerful alpha receptor stimulant, the effect of which, results in more vaso-constriction, hence greater decongestion and greater relief (easier breathing).
FORMULATION:
Each 5mL Syrup contains:
Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride .............................12.5 mg
Each mL Syrup (Oral Drops) contains:
Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride ............................ 6.25 mg
INDICATIONS:
For the relief of nasal congestion associated with common cold, rhinitis or sinusitis, in infants and children.
PRECAUTION & WARNING:
Patients with the following health conditions should be careful in taking Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride: high blood pressure, toxic goiter, benign prostatic hypertrophy, cardiovascular disorders, glaucoma and if taking antidepressants. Patients with cardiovascular disease and untreated/uncontrolled high blood pressure should consult a doctor prior to taking Phenylpropanolamine
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
Phenylpropanolamine is safe and effective if taken at the right dose for the right indications (see indications above) and taken at the following maximum dose:

ADVERSE EFFECTS:
Adverse reactions varies widely from headache and elevated blood pressure to cardiopulmonary arrest, and intracranial hemorrhage. Mild reactions include blurred vision, dizziness, anxiety, agitation, tremor, confusion and hypersensitivity reaction.
